“New Year, New Me!!!” Imagine hearing those words coming from your child’s mouth.
What would your response be?
From the adoration and doting I hear oozing from the Mums & Dads I shoot / (have shot) for over the years I’d imagine it’d be something along the lines of.. “WHAT?! What do you mean `New You’?”
Your child replies “I don’t like how I look. I hate my arms! {insert that one body part here}”
Noticing your shock and how the seemingly casual, socially acceptable new years quote has disturbed you, your child tries to lighten the mood. Smirking, your child giggles “OK well, at least there’s Photoshop!”
Well my dear Client – imagine for a sec when you say “New Year, New Me”, that I have heard you.
Now imagine me, taking your beautiful face in my hands, as you would your child’s.
Looking so deeply into your eyes, that it penetrates your core belief of yourself, I say to you what I KNOW you would say to your own child, had you heard those words come from their mouth;
“YOU. ARE. BEAUTIFUL. Exactly the way you are!”
We don’t want a new you, we love the You that is now and the You that is here. We love the You that loves and laughs and feels and shares and makes our lives so very full!
This is the You we care about and this is the You we want to capture.
The You that extends beyond dress size and flawless skin.
Its the You that lights up the world around you that I’m interested in and we certainly don’t have to wait until you lose 10kgs / fit into those jeans / grow your bangs out before we can celebrate this moment of life we are sharing, through photos.
So please, Beautiful You, remember this, not only on photoshoot days, but everyday – you are magnificent and wonderful and perfect just the way you are!
The impact you have on your children; the way their eyes light up when you tickle them, the way they scrunch their nose when you tease them, the way they laugh when you pull your funny faces and tell your inside family jokes – that is the Beautiful You these photos are meant to capture. That is what I am seeing through the lens when I look at you.
Now go play your favourite song, have a little bootie shake, give your reflection a wink in the mirror and remind yourself that aint nobody need a “New You”! You are loved just the way you are!
