March is really special.
Not Birthday, Christmas, Easter, Valentines Day, getting pressies, type of special, but fly my SAVE THE EARTH FLAG! loud and proud type of special!
March is the month we celebrate our shared home, our beautiful Earth.
Save these dates and join us in doing our little bit,
- March 3rd – World Wild Life Day (for those who love deets: https://wildlifeday.org/ )
- March 6th – Clean up Australia Day (for those who love deets: https://www.cleanup.org.au/ )
- March 22nd – World Water Day (for those who love deets: https://www.worldwaterday.org/ )
- March 30th – Earth Hour Day (for those who love deets: https://www.earthhour.org.au/ )
Wild Life, Earth, Water – which of these would you like to rob from your descendants?
Personally, I couldn’t imagine life without the beauty of either wild life, oceans, waterfalls, rivers, trees, flowers and mountains. I can’t imagine speaking of them like they’re things of the past.
Which brings me to one of our three business philosophies, “Tread lightly on this earth, leave only memories & legacies”.
By treading lightly, we live to honour the Earth and protect her.
It’s a lot easier than it sounds, promise!
Remember the three R’s from school?
Well, we’ve beefed them up for you a bit, to share some of our daily #ecowarrior tips to get you inspired on your SAVE THE EARTH journey this month!
TnTs’ Beginner’s guide to R!R!R!
Re-use:
- Glass coffee jars – storage of dry goods, great for brekkie on-the-go, great for rustic-style vases at home or as props for photoshoots and propagating plants.
- Take-away containers – freezing meals, storing meals, to soak small laundry items, paint containers for the Littles, digging tools for the sand pit / mud kitchen, storage ‘drawer’ for small goods like stock cubes, spice packets, sachets etc.
- Gift bags / Brown Paper Bags – re-gift your gift bags! Brown bags, painted / stamped / drawn on / decorated with stickers by the Littles makes for a beautiful personal touch for gift bags.
Reduce:
- Shop local! Thus reducing carbon footprint and traffic!
- Mindful water consumption – showering insteading of bathing saves heaps, water your grass with cooled, left-over water from your cooking and the old-trusted don’t leave the tap running whilst brushing your teeth or washing your hands.
- Food wastage; If you’ve cooked more than you can eat, freeze the meals immediately (in your reused take away container :P) so you have ready-to-go meals!
Recycle:
- Sort your bins! When I was teaching in Child Care, we taught our 2 year olds which rubbish goes into which bin. They nailed it within the week. You can doooo it!
- Op-Shop! Thrift store! Pre-loved! Call it what you want, it’s saving the earth… your funds and a trip to KMart!
- Old Electronics ~ dust ’em off (or not?) and drop them in the Office Works Recycle Bins. Batteries ~ take them with you to your next Aldi shop! They recycle them!
Whilst we can’t single-handedly stop the ivory-poachers or the polar caps from melting, we can do our bit on our Australian soil. “Saving the Earth” is a fun on-going project to have on the go with kids, it’s amazing how naturally resourceful they are.
It’s a bit of a lifestyle change, but it’s one moving in the direction of conscious consumption, earth friendliness, mindfulness and.. you can still eat chocolate! :P
Its little steps every day that ensure memories & legacies are all we leave behind.
